Case Study: Redland Green School, Bristol
Location: Redland Green School occupies a new facility in Bristol, with striking architectural features designed to be one of the most modern and state of the art learning facilities in the South West.
Problem: ‘The Street’ – a double-height space running the length of the building, designed as an area in for students to congregate as well as a concourse between classrooms. In practice, the size and hard surfaces created unacceptable levels of reverberated noise, compromising the intent to create an ambient meeting space.
Solution: Golesworthy provided the solution in the form of SuperPhon Acoustic Wall Panels, manufactured by CMS Acoustic Solutions. The panels work by absorbing sound at the surface, cancelling reverberation. Critical in the new building, the panels subtley integrate with the design with a woven textile finish in a colour exactly matching the walls.
Result: ‘The Street’ is proving as popular as the architects intended, its striking design uncompromised by uncontrolled noise or imposing acoustic measures.
